Get Help with the Parts You Find Difficult

You may manage most of your routine but need help with a few tasks. Or you may need more support with washing, dressing and getting ready.

Personal care helps you look after yourself at home. Agreeing which tasks you need help with means you can receive support without giving up your independence.

What You Can Get Help With

Your support is discussed at your home assessment and written into your care plan. Depending on your needs, this can include:

  • Washing and Bathing

help with getting washed in a way you can manage.

  • Getting Dressed

support with clothing and fastenings, while you choose what to wear.

  • Everyday Grooming

help with hair, shaving, brushing teeth, glasses and hearing aids.

  • Toileting and Continence Care

support with personal hygiene and using the toilet.

  • Getting Up and Moving Around

discuss the assistance you need with getting in and out of bed, sitting down and moving around your home.

  • Medication

discuss reminders and support, with any agreed help recorded in your care plan.

  • Breakfast

help preparing something to eat as part of your morning routine.

Feel More Comfortable Accepting Help

Letting someone help with washing or dressing can feel like a big step. You may have questions about privacy, how you'll be helped or what you can keep doing yourself.

Your free home assessment gives you a chance to talk through those concerns before agreeing to care. Explain what makes you comfortable and where you want support, so these details can be included in your care plan.

Could Personal Care Help You?

It may be worth exploring if washing or dressing has become difficult, getting ready leaves you tired, or you need more help after returning home from hospital.

It can also take some daily care off your family's hands, giving you more time to enjoy being together.

Common Questions

We can't guarantee the same carer for every visit. Ask about the visiting arrangements when discussing your care, so you can understand what is possible before deciding.

Every care visit lasts at least 30 minutes. The length of your visits is discussed alongside the help you need.

Tell us what help you need during your assessment. Whether that support can be provided needs to be agreed before care begins, and any agreed medication support is recorded in your care plan.

Yes. Your support is agreed with you. Explain which tasks you need help with and which you want to keep managing yourself.
