Care Alongside a Health Condition in DarlingtonFind Out What Help Is Possible at Home
If a health condition makes everyday care more difficult, talk through the support you need and any instructions from your health professionals.

Make Everyday Life Easier to Manage
You may need help getting dressed, preparing meals or keeping up with jobs around the house. You may also want to keep doing as much as possible yourself.
Practical support can mean less effort spent on daily tasks and less for family to manage. The first step is to find out whether Better at Home can provide the help you need.
Tell us what your condition means for your everyday routine, what support you already have and where you need more help.
Understand What Support Could Work for You
Explain What You Need Help With
Talk through the tasks that have become difficult and what you want to keep managing yourself. Include any equipment you use, instructions from health professionals and care already provided by others.
Discuss Your Needs at Home
Your free home assessment gives you a chance to explain your routine in more detail and ask questions about the support available.
Whether Better at Home can meet your needs must be established before care is agreed.
Know What Your Care Will Include
Your support is agreed with you and written into a care plan. You have a clear record of the help you'll receive, so you and your family can understand what visits will involve.
Visits last at least 30 minutes. The time needed is discussed alongside your support.

Be Clear About Where You Have Help
If several people or services are involved in your care, you need to understand what each is providing and where you still need support.
Explain the arrangements already in place during your assessment. Your Better at Home care plan records the support agreed with us, giving you something clear to refer to when organising your care.
Keep Your Own Priorities in the Conversation
Alongside the practical tasks, explain what you want help to make possible. That might be getting ready with less effort, keeping your independence or giving family less to manage.
These priorities belong in the discussion about what support would work for you.
Common Questions
Suitability depends on the help you need, not just the name of your condition. Explain what daily life involves and any instructions from your health professionals, so the support required can be considered before care is agreed.
Tell us what they provide and what additional help you're looking for. Any support agreed with Better at Home needs to be clearly defined alongside those existing arrangements.
The home assessment is to discuss whether Better at Home can provide suitable care support. Questions about diagnosis or treatment belong with your health professionals.
Contact Better at Home to discuss what has changed. The support required and whether the service can continue to meet your needs will need to be considered.
Contact Better at Home and ask for Nicola Morrow, our registered manager. She is responsible for how your care is managed and brings over a decade of experience running a care company as owner and manager.
